Queen - A Kind Of Magic (Extended Version)
The William Henry Smith School has come a long way from the 1960s right up to today the changes to way the School is run & the living conditions for the children of today is outstanding & no longer do children suffer the same plight as we did back in the past , I found the Staff to be friendly towards the children & more understanding of there needs it was great to here music coming from the main building & the Headmaster went out of his way to cater for our needs even letting Martin take photos in the Clock Tower I walked away from the William Henry Smith School feeling happy about the changes for the children of today & would recommend any child being placed in the care of the William Henry Smith School today
The William Henry Smith School as it is today
Brendan is the Principal of the William Henry Smith School a residential special school in Brighouse near Huddersfield which meets the needs of challenging pupils. Born and raised in St Helens near Liverpool, Brendan is an ardent Everton supporter and a great follower of both codes of Rugby.
Tragically his wife, Julie, died in 2006 after a long and brave battle with Leukaemia. Brendan, his three daughters, family, friends and colleagues were able to raise £3000 towards Leukaemia research, identification and treatment. The link with Leukaemia based charities will continue through Brendan’s association with The Cicely Foundation.
This video is in memory of Julie Heneghan R.I.P Anggun - Snow On The Sahara
The William Henry Smith School first opened it’s doors to children with Emotional Problems in 1962 after alterations were taken to transform the main building that was used as a orphanage until it closed it’s doors in 1958 during the war the building was adapted & used as an hospital, the clock tower stands 50ft high and can be seen lit across the night sky by local people living on the estate across from the main building throughout the 1990s even till this day there has been dramatic changes done regarding the living conditions for the children of today they now have there own bedrooms there own TV’s & DVDs even there own HIFI’s in there bedrooms but most important of all changes is the atmosphere in the School regarding the children & that in it’s self is an achievement that I would never have thought possible no longer are the children forced to attend church on a Sunday nor are they forced to walk all over the place unlike we were at the time, the children of today need to think themselves lucky that they have a more understanding Principle & staff that are willing to put themselves out to attend to all there needs unlike in the past I was truly amazed to see the arrogant ways of the past were finally no longer present in the School & that the school had become a 5 star hotel unlike the Borstal that it once was & proves that the Smith Foundation got it right in the end it’s a shame it took them so long.
